Sold-out Stratford Library Gala Brought Parisian Magic to Town
The Stratford Library Board of Trustees’ 2026 gala, “April in Paris,” was a magical evening of fine dining, dancing, and art. Under the platinum sponsorship of the Halper Keating Family Foundation, Berchem Moses PC, and Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic, the sold-out event saw nearly 200 in attendance at Stratford’s Blackhawk Country Club. More than $26,000 was raised, and all proceeds directly benefit the Library’s programs and collections.
When not dancing to music spun by DJ Chris Hrusa, or getting their caricatures drawn by artist Bill Hernandez, guests were entertained by the antics of Cat Gasta, Mime for Hire. There was a lavish buffet dinner, complimentary beer and wine, appetizers, and dessert as well. There were more than 50 drawings for premium items, showcasing local restaurants and stores as well as a popular 50-50 raffle. The most exciting time of the evening was a paddle raise for Spark Innovation that raised $9,852 for new gear and furnishings for the soon-to-expand uCreate makerspace.
Board President Robyn Proto offered welcome remarks. Mayor David Chess, State Representatives Kaitlyn Shake and Ben McGorty were in attendance, Stratford Town Council members Rene Gibson and Lisa Carroll Fabian were spotted in the crowd, and Stratford Public Schools’ Acting Superintendent Heather Borges and Assistant Superintendent Diana DiIorio enjoyed the evening as well.
Doreen Jaekle and Joelle Kilcourse of Stratford were co-chairpersons for this successful annual event.
