“Name the Gala”

Idea-(1)The Library Board of Trustees has announced a contest in conjunction with its annual spring fundraiser. The library’s major benefit has been identified as “Broadway Comes to Stratford” for several years with professional Broadway performers as the central entertainment. In previous years the event has featured a Fifties and Sixties theme with the titles “All You Need Is Love” and “Good Vibrations. A new name is now being sought for this year’s event and the public is invited to take part.

This year’s gala will be held at Oronoque Country Club and offer a catered buffet, silent auction and open wine and beer bar. Featured performers will be New York’s premier girl group, The Chiclettes. Performers Susanne, Sarah, and Molly offer an amazing mix of female vocal groups and artists from the early days of Rock & Roll and Motown to the top tunes of today. From Lesley Gore to Lady Gaga, The Chiclettes deliver high energy performances showcasing the female artists that dominated the music scene for the last five decades.

The “Name the Gala” contest is open to all participants over the age of 21. The winner, selected by the Library Board of Trustees, will be awarded two tickets (value: $150) to the Library’s gala held on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Fill out the following form and give us your idea for a name. Deadline is October 31.

The Victoria Soto Legacy Project

The Stratford Library is raising funds to re-design the children’s reading and play area to honor the legacy of Victoria Soto.  Victoria, a Stratford resident, was a first grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Her life exemplified a love of children, her dedication to learning, and her delight in nature and children’s literature.

The Soto family, along with Janice Davis Design LLC and the Stratford Library staff, plans to design a space that will reflect Victoria’s unique personality as well as the values she held so dear. The space will incorporate a sense of fun and joie de vivre, along with references to her many favorite books, animals, and interests.

In order to realize this project, The Stratford Library will be accepting tax deductible donations in Victoria Soto’s memory. Persons or groups wishing to contribute to this memorial fund may mail a check to the Stratford Library designating it for the Victoria Soto Legacy Project.
