The Internet is a vast, global network, which provides an unlimited range of information and can enhance the library’s in-house resources. Patrons are encouraged to take advantage of the Internet at the Stratford Library as an educational and informational resource. However, since the Internet is not regulated by any governing body, users should understand that much of the information retrieved might be inaccurate, offensive to some, or inappropriate for children. The Stratford Library cannot be liable for any direct or indirect, incidental or consequential damages due to information gained and/or obtained via use of the Internet. The library assumes no liability for any loss or damage to the user’s data or for any damage or injury arising from invasion of privacy in the user’s computer accounts, program, or files.

To remain consistent with the American Library Association’s "Library Bill of Rights" and the Stratford Library’s own materials selection policy, the library’s Internet access is not subject to limitations except as noted below. Users are expected to exercise good judgment and discretion. All local, state and federal laws must be followed, including those pertaining to copyright and vandalism to software or equipment. As is true of other library materials, any use of the Stratford Library’s Internet connection for illegal, inappropriate, or obscene purposes or in support of such activities is prohibited. Patrons who misuse or abuse computers or who fail to adhere to these guidelines may have their Internet privileges suspended or revoked at the library’s discretion. Violators will also be held financially and legally responsible for any damages to library materials.

The Library is not responsible for the accuracy, timeliness or appropriateness of materials accessed via the Internet. Users are responsible for evaluating the materials that are accessed. Parents/guardians of minors must take responsibility for supervising and monitoring their children’s Internet use. Librarians have lists of Internet sites recommended for patron use. The library is not responsible for any contamination of the patron’s disk by any malicious software while using the Internet, including email, at the library.
